Serena and husband Barzilla Barker and sons Thomas Eliphaz, George Henry, Frederick Edwin, Erasmus Ellery and William Fremont moved to Lemond Township, Steele County, Minnesota in 1863 from Homer, Cortland, New York. Barzilla died the following year. Serena died of breast cancer in 1881. Serena's sister Cornelia Elizabeth (Chollar) Smith's name is inscribed on the opposite side of this marker.
