Arzela was born in 23 December 1832 in Madison Kentucky, the fifth of ten children born to Jeremiah Hainline and Patsy Horn of Kentucky.
Arzela was 8 years old in 1840 when her family left Kentucky to settle in Buchanan County, Missouri. She was 16 years old when she married 19 year old William Henry Barker on November 19, 1848 in Buchanan County, Missouri. By 1852 the Barkers settled in Jackson County, Kansas where they lived until 1873. In 1873, William and Arzela moved to Colorado where they bought a ranch in Fremont County. Arzela and William had nine children, seven born in Kansas and two born in Colorado.
Arzela died 29 October 1904 at home in Florence , Colorado and was buried at New Hope Cemetery in Wetmore, Fremont, Colorado, United States.

It was originally one room and was built by "Uncle Billy" Barker who homesteaded and filed on water rights in 1884. When located it had been covered with siding which had preserved it, and was a part of a larger structure. After
the death of Mr. & Mrs. Barker it was owned and occupied by several families. The last was that of Cal Sweeten, a pioneer who died in Wetmore. The homestead is now a part of the large Gumear Ranch which is owned and operated by Lewis Draper, Uncle of Karol Smith."

"This building was once a barn on the Barker ranch on Adobe creek south of Florence. William Barker was a substantial citizen and developed his homestead by surrounding the home with several well-constructed buildings for storage and shelter for his livestock. To support his family he raised some grain and a large garden. There was open range for his milk cows and a few beef cattle. The community school house was built on the mesa above his ranch and he obtained his supplies in Florence and Canon City. Most of his neighbors were several miles away on Hardscrabble creek."
