Anna and Peter were Swiss immigrants arriving in the U.S. on 10 May 1852 on the ship Hungarian. The ship passenger list shows "Peter BERGER" and "Anna WYSSE", but does not provide their marital status. He was 41 and she was 27.
It is not known when or where Peter and Anna married, but they settled in the Wells County, Indiana area and had the following known children:
1. Cecelia, b. ca. 1853
2. Elizabeth, b. ca. 1855
3. Rosena, b. ca. 1858
4. Mary, b. ca. 1860
5. Anna, b. ca. 1863
6. John, b. in April 1865, seven months after his father Peter died in October 1864
