Wava Bargen, daughter of Thaddeus and Edna Myrtle (Thurber) Sperry, was born September 18, 1922, at Lucas, Kansas. She passed away Wednesday, August 21, 1996, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital, Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 3 days.
As a child she lived in Lucas and Sharon Springs, Kansas. Wava moved with her parents to Nebraska.
She was baptized at Pilgrim Holiness Church in Superior and was confirmed July 2, 1950, at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Superior, by Pastor Alvin Rueter.
Wava attended and graduated from Superior High School in 1947. She worked at Armour's and Hested's Store in Superior, Nebraska.
January 16, 1949, she married Alvin John William Bargen in Superior.
She was a 46 year member of Salem Lutheran Church, Salem Lutheran Circle and helped with 4-H for many years. Wave owned and operated the Cake Haven in Superior and also ran the Salebarn Cafe for several years.
Wava always cared about others before herself even when she wasn't feeling the best or had troubles herself. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren, her flowers and garden. Wava enjoyed baking and decorating wedding and all occasion cakes.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Larry Joe; and two brothers, Thaddeus (Teddy) and Ray Sperry.
Survivors include her husband, Alvin of Hardy, Nebraska; two sons, Lowell Bargen and his wife Myrna of Douglas, Nebraska, and Terry Bargen and his wife JoAnna of Superior, Nebraska; two daughters, Pam Beale and her husband Marvin Jr. of Shickley, Nebraska and Cheryl Mohler and her husband Carl of Superior, Nebraska; four sisters, Lovey Lambert and her husband Erling, Edna Johnson, Irma Grumert and Theora Bargen, all of Superior, Nebraska; two brothers, Rex Sperry and his wife Twila of Lincoln, Nebraska and Ron Sperry and his wife Lois of Billings, Montana; nine grandchildren, Brad Bargen and his wife Dawn and Christie Bargen, all of Lincoln, Nebraska, Tamy Bargen and Christopher, Brandy and Justin Mohler, all of Superior, Nebraska and April, Amanda and Amy Beale, all of Shickley, Nebraska; two great grandchildren, Ashley and Nicole Bargen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 26, 1996, at 10:30 a.m. from Salem Lutheran Church, rural Superior, with Pastor Michael Osberg officiating. Music was congregation singing of "One Day At A Time", "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace" with Virginia Drohman as organist. Pallbearers were Lonnie Bargen, Vaughn Bargen, Lynn Bargen, Kevin Bargen, Steve Grummert and Rick Sperry. Honorary pallbearers were Arnold Lambert, Kent Bargen, Ron Wilton, Thad Sperry, Mike Sperry and Lennis Estep.
Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, Nebraska. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska, was in charge of arrangements.
