Carl A. Bargen, one of seven children of Carl Edward and Mary Grummert Bargen, was born Sept. 4, 1917, at Superior and died here Jan. 23, at the age of 61 years, 4 months and 20 days.

As an infant, on Sept. 20, 1917, he was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Superior, by Rev. G. Gundel. Aug. 24, 1930, he was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church by Rev. C. Bunge. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church until the time of his death.

He received his education at Smyrna Rural School.

July 15, 1941, he joined the United States Army and served his country until Sept. 15, 1945. He served in C-167 field artillery as rank of staff sargeant (sic).

He was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion.

All of his life, he lived in the Superior area, engaged in farming, except for two years he lived in Menlo Park, Calif., and the time he spent in the service.

April 21, 1949, he was united in marriage to Theora Sperry at Salem Lutheran Church, Superior. On their wedding day they moved into the house which was to be their home until death. To this union five sons were born.

Preceding him in death were his father in 1966, his mother in 1969 and a grandson, Mason Marvin Bargen, in 1978.

He is survived by his wife, Theora; five sons, Lynn of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Kevin and Lonnie of Superior, Curtis of Hardy and Kent of the home; nine grandchildren; five brothers, Eilert, Fred, Orlin and Leland, all of Superior, and Alvin of Hardy; one sister, Mrs. Clarence C. Wilton (Ruby) Superior; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other realtives (sic) and friends.

Services were Saturday at 2 p.m., from the Salem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ray Ensign officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemtery. The Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of arrangements.
