Fred Barfknecht was born January 29, 1859, in Wastenberg, Germany, and passed away at home in Deshler May 3, 1933, at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 4 days.
In 1883 he came from Germany to Chicago. In 1885 he was married to Fredericka Schubbert. In 1787 (sic) he moved to Lancaster county (sic), Nebraska, and in 1892 he moved to a farm northwest of Nelson, Nebr., where he raised his family and lived until he moved to his home in Deshler in 1913.
To this union were born nine children. One died in infancy. He is survived by his wife and eight children: William of Bostwick, Mrs. Adam Troudt of Lawrence, August of Deshler, Fred of Superior, Mrs. Wm. Hohl of Superior, Mrs. Wm. Bangert of Lawrence, Charley and Mrs. Hobert Luellen of Akron, Colo.; and one brother Wm. Barfknecht of Hastings, and twenty grandchildren.
He was baptized and raised in the Lutheran faith and remained a firm believer until the end.
The funeral was held in Deshler Friday.
