Irene Abbott, 88, died early this morning at the Villa of Oswego nursing home. She had been a resident of the nursing home since June 1986. She was born Oct. 25, 1901, in rural Oswego to Will and Leona (Dunham) Barcus. She grew up in the Red Bud neighborhood and graduated from Oswego High School. She was married to Carl Abbott on July 16, 1922, at Columbus. He died Sept. 10, 1979. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oswego. Survivors include: two daughters, a brother, three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Three brothers, three sisters and a grandchild preceded her in death. The service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Oswego with the Rev. Kerry Gage officiating. Burial will be in the Oswego Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Bath Funeral Home of Altamont.
