Julia's father, Jonathan, owned the land that is now part of Dam Neck Fleet Combat Training Center. He and his brother both had houses on this land, having inherited it from their father, William. It is for this reason that Julia was buried in this small cemetery that already occupied this land.
Julia was married to: Edward L. Whitehurst on December 23, 1885 in what was then Princess Anne County, Virginia (now city of Virginia Beach).
Below is a copy of the information from their marriage:
Princess Anne County, Virginia marriage records show the following -
"Married December 23, 1885 - Edward L. Whitehurst, single, and Julia A. Barco, single - Edward L. Whitehurst, age 30, born in and residing in Princess Anne County, Virginia, occupation Farmer, son of Enoch Whitehurst and his wife, Mary F. - Julia A. Barco, age 22, born in Currituck County, North Carolina and residing in Princess Anne County, Virginia, daughter of Jonathan L. Barco and his wife, Mary L."
I found a wonderful treasure trove of information about this tiny cemetery online at the following address - it explains how Julia, the Robinson couple and David Dutton all came to be buried together at Dam Neck:
Just search within the above document for the name "Barco" and you'll find the cemetery info.
