A PIONEER PASSES AWAY
MRS. SUSANNA BARBER FALLS ASLEEP
After enjoying the pleasures and comforts and enduring the trials and conflicts of four score years and over, Mrs. Susanna Barber, nee Horton, yielded up her spirit at five o'clock last evening to the God who gave it. In her death the Christian Church of Madison, which was founded sixty years ago, loses its last charter member. She was born in Ohio ninety-two years ago, and moved when a child with her parents to the farm occupied by ex-Sheriff John Hoagland. She was married to Timothy Barber, for many years a prominent citizen and grocer of this city, who departed this life in 1873. Of their three children--Cyrus, John and George--the two last named survive; John at Kansas, Illinois, and George on Broadway in this city. the old lady had for a long time made her home with her grand-daughter, Mrs. Charles Friedersdorff; on West Second street, at whose house she died. A sister of the deceased, three years older, is lying at the point of death. The funeral of Mrs. Barber will take place from the residence at 9 o'clock to-morrow morning, and the sermon will be preached by Rev. Z. M. Kenady. The interment will be in Springdale.
