Born in Jersey City, he was brought to Port Richmond as a baby and lived there until relocating to New Jersey in 1987.
Mr. Barbera worked for the Bethlehem Steel Co., Mariners Harbor, and The Rampulla Construction Company, Grasmere. He retired in 1986.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the European Theater, and was awarded a Purple Heart. He belonged to a Veteran's of Foreign Wars post in Berkeley Township, New Jersey.
Mr. Barbera savored time spent with his family. His favorite pastime was to fish and crab. He also loved to garden, and to help friends and neighbors with anything that needed fixing.
His wife of fifty-eight years, the former Olga Sarawich, died in 1998.
Also preceding Mr. Barbera in death were his daughter June Ann, granddaughter Melanie Barbera and great-grandson James Jakubowski.
Surviving are his son, Nicholas; his daughters, Valerie Aumack and Rosemarie Barbera; his sisters, Rosemarie Rush and Anna Arabito; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home. Toms River, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Maximilian Kolbe R.C. Church, Berkeley Township.
Burial will follow in the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, New Jersey.
