Lt. Colonel Mary Reid Barbee Rice, 89 of Jacksonville, FL. She graduated from nursing school in 1944 and joined the U.S. Army. She served in WWII and the Korean War. After active duty she served as a teacher in a MASH Reserve Unit for 10 years. She retired as Head Nurse of the Jacksonville Naval Air Station new borne baby department with 30 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Lucious and Mary Mable Barbee and sisters, Alice Hopkins and Edith Barber. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Our family called her our National Treasure. We love and miss her, niece Carolyn and children, Mary Alice, Michael and Jason Howle. Burial was December 20, 2010 in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Arrangements by Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home 7242 Normandy Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32205.
