She was born in Lee County on January 19, 1924 to the late Clem and Ethel Land Barbee. Mrs. Estes was retired from the State Government and was of the Baptist Faith.
She is survived by two sons, John Estes, Jr. of Zionville, NC, Darrell and Sarah "Sally" Estes of Mt. Airy; two grandchildren, Andrew Carl Estes, and Julie Anna Estes; two brothers, William C. Barbee of Rocky Mount, Karl Barbee of Garner.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Estes was preceded in death by her Ex-husband, John Eugene Estes, Sr.; three sisters, Ruth McLean, Yvonne Hinton, Geraldine Barbee; three brothers, Robie, Marvin "Red", W. Harold, and Fredrick Barbee.
The family will receive friends Sunday, June 2, 2013 from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Ephesus Baptist Church in Spring Hope, NC with Rev. Brian Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Spring Hope.
