Gertrude A. Surowski Baranowski, 82, of New Kensington died Friday (Sept. 13, 2002) in Alle-Kiski Medical Center (formerly Allegheny Valley Hospital) Harrison.
Born Nov. 14, 1919, in New Kensington, she was a lifelong resident of the city.
Until retiring in 1975, Mrs. Baranowski was the owner of Baron's Card and Gift Shop, New Kensington.
Mrs. Baranowski was a member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church in New Kensington.
She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and playing the organ and piano.
Survivors include two sons, Russell (Judith) Baranowski of Blawnox and Stephen (Judith) Baranowski of Raleigh, N.C.; two brothers, Louis J. Vandeveer of Graton, Calif. and Raymond L. Surowski of Temecula, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Theresa (Merrill) Woomer of Missoula, Montana.
Also surviving is a grandson, Drew (Heather) Baranowski of Springdale Township.
Mrs. Baranowski was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Frank Baranowski; her parents, Andrew and Julia Orszulak Surowski; a brother, Walter A. Surowski; and three sisters, Elizabeth S. Blissell, Ann Lobur and Lucie Figiel.
Friends are being received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the JOHN F. KRUPA FUNERAL HOME INC., 1000 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where Prayers of Transfer will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Christian Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington. The celebrant will be her pastor, the Rev. Richard Karenbauer. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Lower Burrell.
