James Lawrence Banta, 59, of Route 1, Waddy, died Saturday at the King's Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville.
He retired from the United States Navy in 1966 after serving on active duty during World War II, Korean conflict, and Vietnam conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Cecilia Sambets Banta, Waddy; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Ellen Thomas, Sewell, New Jersey, Mrs. Patricia Ann Reese, Shelbyville, and Mrs. Elizabeth Bambill, Frankfort; one son, James J. Banta, Waddy; six grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Ellegood, Pleasureville and Mrs. Anna Mary Eldridge, Pleasureville; three brothers, Marvin Banta and Leroy Banta, both of Pleasureville and Lloyd Banta, Louisville.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday, September 30 at St John's Catholic Church, Eminence. Father John Lesousky, officiated. Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.
