Margaret Joyce Banning, 96, of Cowden, passed away at 10:28 p.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017 at the Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.

Margaret was born December 24, 1920, in Cowden, the daughter of Ward and Anna (Miller) Phillips.

She married Hanley Banning on July 11, 1942 in St. Louis, he preceded her in death in 1995. Margaret was a homemaker, who together with Hanley, raised three sons. She cherished time with her family, working crossword puzzles and playing cards.

She is survived by her three sons: Phillip (Gayle) Banning of Bethany, Randy (Christy) Banning of Cowden and Rick (Leslie) Banning of Sheldon; six grandchildren: Jamie (Eric) Garret of Owaneco, Jodi (Billy) Walther of Oakley, Dr. Whitney (Allan) Anthonysamy of St. Charles, MO, Dr. Shannon (Brad) Wilson of Carbondale, Katy Banning of Carbondale and Aaron Banning of Sheldon; five great-grandchildren: Brody and Ethan Garret, Darby and Saige Walther and Boone Wilson; sister Rosalie Miller of Decatur, AL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Hanley and her beloved four-legged companion, Dixie.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden with Pastor Bob Phillips officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery in Cowden.

Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Care Center Activity Fund or Family Gathering Center.

Margaret’s family wishes to extend their gratitude for the loving care provided to their Mother by the entire staff at the Lutheran Care Center, as well as the Addus staff, it was with their exceptional care that Mom was able to stay in the comfort of her home.
