Florian J. Bannach
Florian Joseph Bannach, 74, a
member of a widely known
Town of Stockton family, died
Wednesday night at 10:40
o'clock at St. Michael's Hospital
which he entered on Christmas
Mr. Bannach, whose home
was at Route 1, Custer, was
prominent in sports activities,
especially football, during his
high school and college careers.
He was born on April 16, 1893,
in Stockton, a son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bannach.
He rceived his elementary edu-
cation in the Stockton schools
and was graduated from the
Stevens Point High School and
Ripon College, the latter in 1921.
His education was interrupted
when he entered World War I
service on May 14, 1918, in Stev-
ens Point. He served as a sergeant
in a special training company
of the U. S. Army. He received
his discharge at Camp
Hancock, Ga., on Dec. 30, 1918.
Prior to his retirement seven
years ago, Mr. Bannach had
served for 39 years as a rural
mail carrier out of the Custer
Post Office.
His marriage to Emma Kurth
took place Nov. 28, 1935, at Im-
maculate Conception Church,
Lansing, Iowa. The couple lived
at their present address since.
Mr. Bannach was a member
of the National Rural Letter
Carrier Association, the Stevens
Point Elks Lodge and Berens-
Scribner Post No. 6, American
Surviving are his wife; three
sons, Robert J. Bannach, in the
U. S. Air Force at Blytheville,
Ark., Michael K., Brookfied,
Ill., and James F., U. S. Navy,
Green Bay; three grandchildren;
three brothers, John Bannach,
3401 Main St., Henry, Antigo,
and Amel, Custer, and
three sisters, Miss Tillie B.
Bannach, Sheboygan, Miss Marion
Bannach, Milwaukee, and
Mrs. Roland (Amelia) Kussow,
Ukiah, Calif.
Two sisters, besides his parents,
preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held
Saturday morning at 11:30
o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic
Church, Custer. Burial will take
place in the spring in the parish
The body is at the Dzikoski
Funeral Home where friends
may call after 2 p.m. on Friday.
The local Legion post will conduct
its ritual at 7 o'clock Friday
evening and will be followed
by the Elks ritual at 7:30, with
a rosary scheduled at 8 o'clock.
