Melba Guinn Holbert, 80, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, departed this life on Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 after a sudden illness.
She was born in Cunningham, Texas to Clyde and Thelma Bankhead on Sept. 9, 1929. A 1947 graduate of Cunningham High School, she married Horton W. "Buddie" Holbert on June 26, 1948. After moving to Lubbock in 1952, she became a life-long Lubbock resident. She was a longtime employee of Texas Tech University.
Mrs. Holbert is survived by her husband, Buddie Holbert; four children and their spouses, Jarita and Ed Pascasio, Rhonda and Michael Glass, Jerry and Lara Holbert, and Robby and Patricia Holbert, all of Lubbock; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Elaine Wheeler of Baker, Mont.
Preceding her in death are her parents; two brothers, Lloyd Marshall and Clyde Elmer Bankhead; and one grandson, James Thomas Travis.
Visitation for family and friends in the Lubbock area will be held this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at White Funeral Home, 2210 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas.
Visitation for family and friends in the Paris/Cunningham area will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 9, 2009 at Bright-Holland Funeral Home, 2601 Lamar Avenue, Paris, Texas.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009 at Life Tabernacle Church in Cunningham, Texas. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery, Cunningham, Texas.
Arrangements are under the care of White Funeral Home in Lubbock and Bright-Holland Funeral Home in Paris, Texas.
