Jarrell Kenneth Banker, 86, passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012. Graveside service: 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Memorial service: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ in Arlington. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, if you wish, a donation may be made to Hearts and Hands, in care of Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ, 6102 W. Pleasant Ridge Road, Arlington, Texas, 76016.
Jarrell was born June 23, 1926, to Pernel Verneal Banker and Ola Isbell Banker in Kenefic, Okla. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944 and served in the Phillipines and in the Japan occupation and was discharged in 1947. Jarrell graduated from high school in 1948 in Oklahoma City, Okla., and married Mary Ellen Cornett March 20, 1948, in Oklahoma City. In December 1950 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and was on active duty at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth for two years. Jarrell completed a two-year course in radio and TV at Fort Worth Technical School on the GI Bill, where he received his electronic instruction. He worked at Hammond Organ studios in Fort Worth in the service department from December 1957 until they went out of business in 1975. At that time he bought out the service department and operated Jarrell Banker Organ Service until 2012. Jarrell was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ in Arlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Allen Dale Banker and Perry Louis Banker; and two infant sons. Survivors: Wife of 64 years, Mary Ellen Banker; daughter, Sally Ellen Jinks and her husband, Rodney, of Mansfield; daughter, Sabra Lynn Penley and her husband, David R., of Fort Worth; and grandchildren, Elyse Penley, Philip Penley, Laura Jinks Jiminez, Lea Jinks and Jonathan Jinks.
