Herman Balzar Dies in Mineral

A resident of Nevada all his life, Herman S. Balzar, brother of the late Gov. Fred B. Balzar, died yesterday at his home in Hawthorne. He was forty-nine years old.

Mr. Balzar was born in Hawthorne and spent all of his life there. For several years following his graduation from high school, he worked for the Southern Pacific Company and later engaged in the automobile business. He was formerly a member of the county board of commissioners.

He was an active member of the Knights of Pythias lodge. Survivors include his widow, Olivia; nine children, Stanley, Jack, Beverly, Robert, Fred, Dick, Geraldine and Diana of Hawthorne and Mrs. David Powell of Reno; a sister, Mrs. Florence Davis of North Carolina, and a brother, Bert of Hawthorne.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Ross-Burke Company chapel, commencing at two o'clock. The Knights of Pythias lodge will be in charge.

Many Friend at Last Rites for Herman Balzar

Many friends attended the funeral here yesterday for Herman S. Balzar, widely known ridest of Hawthorne, who died Sunday at his home in that city.

Services of the Knights of Pythias order of which he had been an active member were conducted by Amity lodge of Reno at the Ross-Burke Company home chapel, with N.E. Wilson acting as chancellor commander. He was assisted by L.A. Gulling a vice chancellor, W.P. Thrall, master of work, and C.H. Heuer as chaplain.

Vocal solos were rendered by Lawrence Layman, accompanied by Prof. W.E. Corris. There were numerous floral remembrances.

Interment was in K. of P. cemetery and the pallbearers were C.B. Burkham, W.T. Williams, Irving Nixon, George Geyer, J. McCarthy and George Box.

Balzar was the brother of the late Governor F.B. Balzar and had been active in Mineral county affairs for many yars.
