Mrs. Hallie Koontz Baltzell McLaren, 85, of Frederick, died Friday, Nov. 20, at Northampton Manor Nursing Home. She was the wife of J. Robert McLaren.
Born Oct. 14, 1913, in Unionville, she was a daughter of the late R. Hollis and Mary Buckman Koontz. Mrs. McLaren was a member of Linganore United Methodist Church where, in her younger years, she was active with the women's society and the church choir. She attended Glade United Church of Christ, Walkersville.
She was a retired bus driver for the Frederick County School system after 28 years of service.
She devoted her life to her family and home. Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Robert E. Baltzell and wife Betty J. of Walkersville, T. Richard Baltzell and wife Carole H. of Damascus, and E. Lee Baltzell and wife Joan K. of Westminster; six grandchildren, Cynthia Cervenka, Kimberly Baltzell Maine, Kevin Richard Baltzell, Susan Bachtel, Robin Fendlay and Suenne L. Baltzell; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elbert H. Koontz and wife Josephine, Wilfred L. Koontz and wife Margaret, and Norman R. Koontz and wife Myra, all of Frederick; two stepdaughters, Ruth Ann Wilson and husband Kenneth, and Jane Ausherman and husband Wayne; four step-grandchildren, Eric and John Ausherman, Lori Strasburg and Rebecca Boggs; and one step-great-grandchild.
Mrs. McLaren was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Kenneth Baltzell, October 1979; and one brother, Herman E. Koontz.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Gerald C. Hanberry, of Glade United Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
