GOODLAND Kan July 20 AP
An oil tanker semi-trailer exploded Friday night at a highway construction project killing the driver Jerry Baltazor, about 20, of Concordia, Kan. Baltazor was delivering road oil to the Harry Henery Construction Co., crew nine miles west of Goodland on U.S. Highway 24.
Witnesses said Baltazor lit a match near the tank and the oil exploded throwing him into a ditch full of blazing oil. A workman, Roy DeWitt, 52, of Elgin pulled Baltazor out of the fire but he died a few minutes after being brought to a Goodland hospital.
The fire was extinguished by the Goodland fire department. One of the firemen, Al Hively, was injured slightly when he overturned a street washer in which he was delivering more water to the scene of the blaze.
