Maxine was a licensed practical nurse most of her life, working at Howard Regional Hospital and Windsor Estates. She was proud to be in the first graduating LPN class of Kokomo on June 12, 1966. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, working with children and spending time with her family and friends. She was a former member of Trinity Wesleyan Church, and was attending Radiant Life Church.
Surviving are her children, Verlin Colter, Kokomo, and James (Carole) Colter, Mesa, Ariz.; stepchildren, Dale Colter, Casselberry, Fla., Cindy Smith, Deland, Fla., and Robbin Harris, Gainsville, Fla.; one brother, Kenneth Balser, Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Kenneth Colter; and two sisters, Evelyn Colter and Beulah Brown; and one infant brother.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Pastor Steve Pearce officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery, Kokomo. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary.
