Catherine, also known as Kate, always insisted the correct spelling of the family name was Balloue. However, this appear to be the way they wrote the name. The last letter e was written as a capital E, and when written following a letter w, it appeared to be Balloue instead of Ballowe.
Her death certificate gives her date of birth as April 17, 1884.

Longtime Local Resident Buried
Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church for Mrs. Katie Akin, 80, an Archer City resident for the past 53 years.
Mrs. Akin died in the Archer County Hospital Thursday, November 15. She was born April 19, 1882, in White County, Arkansas.
She is survived by a brother, E.R. Ballowe of Archer City. Burial was in the Archer City Cemetery.
