Dryden, Dec. 27 - Died, At his home in Dryden, Dec. 22, 1917, Myron Ballou, aged 87 years, 10 months and 13 days. The funeral was held at the house Monday at 1 o'clock, the Rev. M.E. Bowman officiating and taking for his text these words: "Truly for him to live was Christ, to die was gain." Mr. and Mrs. Bowman sang two beautiful selections. Burial was made at Virgil.

Mr. Ballou was born in Virgil and his entire life was spent there with the exception of the last three years, coming to Dryden to live when the infirmities of his years made it necessary to give up active farm life. He had belonged to the Methodist church for...constant attendant. In politics he was Prohibition, and had been an honorary member of the W.C.T.U. for twenty-five years.

In 1853 he was married to Miss Emeline Parker of Lapeer, whose death occurred in 1891. To them were born three daughters, Mrs. R.W. Huffman of University Place, Nebraska, Mrs. Hilton Ryan of Cortland, and Mrs. D.M. Ryan of Dryden. The only son, the late J.M. Ballou, was killed in an accident a year ago last September. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In 1892 he married Miss Jennie Hutchings of Virgil, whose constant attention and untiring devotion has so materially eased the declining years.

The out-of-town friends who came to attend the funeral were: Mrs. Julia Ballou and son Homer of Richmond Hill, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Parker of Lapeer, Mrs. Grace Luh, Mr. and Mrs. Hilton Ryan and Fred Ryan of Cortland.
