Mr. Arthur Eugene Ballentine 92, of Blythewood, S.C., entered into rest Thursday, March 12, 2009 at his home. Graveside services with Masonic Rites will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Beulah United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Lynch officiating. He was husband of the late Irma Burch Ballentine and son of the late Arthur and Corrie Oswald Ballentine. Mr. Ballentine was born in Blythewood on October 19, 1916.
During World War II, Mr. Ballentine served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and participated in the legendary Battle of the Bulge. In 1972 he retired from Fort Jackson as a fire fighter with 33 years of service. In the ensuing years he enjoyed farming and living off the land. He was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church and a member of Blythewood Lodge #395.
Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Ballentine and his wife Pat, Danny Ballentine and his wife Barbara, and a daughter, Irma Jean Watford and her husband Gerald, all of Blythewood; two brothers, Marion Wesley Ballentine, Winnsboro, George Bennie Ballentine of Blythewood; five grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Mr. Ballentine was predeceased by a sister, Nellie Timms. Pope Funeral Home.
