Obituary: "Gordon "Dobie" Ballentine, 61, of New Edinburg died Saturday, June 3, at the Roosevelt Road VA Hospital. He was born in Cleveland County October 20, 1916, a son of Lee and Viola Lowe Ballentine. Mr. Ballentine was a staff sgt. in the Air Force during World War II, and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Clark Ballentine, two daughters, Mrs. Ann Jones and Mrs. Lynn Wilson both of Jacksonville; two brothers, Bill Ballentine and Clarence Ballentine both of Warren and three sisters, Mrs. Masel Crumpler of Camden, Mrs. Eula Harrelson of Warren and Mrs. Marie Sims of Hattiesburg, Miss.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Emmaus Baptist Church by Rev. Gerri Hensley. Burial was in Moseley Cemetery by Frazer Funeral Home. Special music was provided by Bob Haygood, Mrs. Leland Bryant and the Bryant sisters.
Pallbearers were Bobby Joe Clements, Leland Bryant, Howard Parrott, A. G. Haygood, Daymon Parker, Earl Bryant, James Plair and Eddie Carr. Honorary pallbearers were Ed Young, Pat Ballentine, David Barnes, Troy Atkins, Rex Vick, Gordon Bryant, Bobby Ballentine, Ivy Harrelson, Otis Wagnon, Garland Harrelson and Micky Ballentine."
