KING - As our Lord called home one of his children, Doris B. Ballard, of King on Sunday, July 17, 2005, at her home with her family at her side. He said, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." "I fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."-Matthew 11:28; II Timothy 4:7. She was born Feb. 4, 1931, in Columbus County to Broadie Edward and Grace Williams Bullard. Ms. Ballard was a member of Crestwood Baptist Church. She retired from AT&T with 35 years of service. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Jimmie Brooks; sister Patty Kallam; brother Ed Bullard; niece Patricia Inman; and her second husband, Harry Ballard. She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Theresa B. Denny and Deborah B. Harris of King; four grandchildren, Tammy Walker (Travis) of King, Chris Denny and Matthew Harris of Winston-Salem and Tony Harris (Kristi) of Ararat; and four great-grandchildren, Cameron Denny, Tyler and Abby Walker and Jacob McCombs. Also surviving are her sister, Lucinda Newsome; and several very special nieces, all of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Pastor Kenny Hutchins officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 19, at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Ms. Theresa Denny, 105 Worthingway Court, King. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Stokes County Hospice, P.O. Box 10, Danbury, NC 27016. We all miss her greatly and would like to thank those who helped us in our time of need. A special thank-you to the staff of Stokes County Hospice, and friend/nurse, Kay Dodson.
