EARNEST JAMES BALLARD.

In the passing to a better life of Earnest J. Ballard, Evansville has lost one of its leading businessmen and its exemplary citizens. For many years Mr. Ballard has been one of the leading business and social influences of the community and his death leaves a lasting grief upon his many friends and associates.

Mr. Ballard was born in Evansville in 1861 and was married to Alice M. Eldridge in 1891. He is survived by his widow, and three children, Byrl Ernest of Cincinnati, Lawrence of Evansville, Mrs. Sterling Beath, Kayling China, and his brother Oscar Ballard.

During his long life in Evansville, Mr. Ballard held a number of civic and social offices. He was formerly a member of the city council, and at the time of his death was a member of the Library Board and the Cemetery Commission.

Among those present at the funeral were: J. W. Vance, Blue Earth Minn.; Mrs. D. Loomer, Miss Beth Loomer, Delevan, Wis.; Mr. And Mrs. Sodders, Lodi, Wis.; Mrs Wallin, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Lyons, Green Bay, Wis.; Mrs. Ben Ballard, Alene Ballard, Milton, Wis.; Mr. And Mrs. Burr Tolles, Janesville.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Stephens of the Baptist church and the Masonic order.
