Based on Ward's obituary, he might have adopted Norma Worley who 8 years old when Ward married Bertha. Bertha was granted a divorce on on February 7, 1958, claiming "indignities." The couple had no children.
On November 10, 1968, Bertha married William Ackerson in Laramie, Wyoming.

Funeral services for Bertha Nadine Ball Ackerson were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 1996 at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. The Rev. James L. Hennig of the Trinity Lutheran Church officiated. Interment was in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, north of Rock Springs.
Pallbearers were Mario Eugene Cox, Michael Ben Cox, Robert William Cox, David Pivik, John Faccio and Dick Miller.
Mrs. Ackerson, 88, of 1325 Sage St., Rock Springs, died at 4:15 a.m. Thursday, De. 26, 1996 at the Sage View Care Center in Rock Springs, where she had been a patient for several years.
A longtime resident of Rock Springs, Mrs. Ackerson died following a lengthy illness.

Survivors include one son, Eugene Cox of Rock Springs; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Norma) Paoli and Mrs. Herman (Alma) Faccio, both of Rock Springs; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several niece and nephews.
