On Saturday morning, April 11, 2015 at Williamson Memorial Hospital, heaven gained another precious angel. Mary W. Ball, of North Matewan, W.Va., passed away at the age of 89.
Mary was born on March 5, 1926 at Hardy, Ky. to the late Solomon and Margarett McCoy Bates.
In addition to her parents, those that precede Mary in death include her first husband Curtis Webb and her second husband Cecil Ball, a baby brother Charles E. Bates; sister Thelma Bates passed when she was 16 years of age, Homer Bates passed at the age of 29, Bette (Johnnie) Collins, Eva (Ran) Cook, special nieces Margaret Cook Casey and Vicki Bates, great nephew John Patrick Collins; step children that are preceded in death were Danny Ball, Teddy Ball, Rodney Ball, and Daphene Williams.
Mary was member of the North Matewan Church of Christ since 1985. She loved her Lord and Savior and served him faithfully. She was an employee of the United States postal service from 1943-1990 and then from 1973-1990 she served as postmaster at the Matewan, W.Va. post office.
Those that Mary treasured and held near to her heart include her son, Ronald Curtis Webb of Manchester, TN; daughter Rhonda Bowes and her special son in law whom Mary sent a special thanks in her last wishes for all his kindness Chris Bowes of Matewan, W.Va; Special step-daughter whom Mary not only viewed as a daughter but also a special friend Patty Hatfield. When Mary was united in marriage to her second husband Cecil Ball she had 8 step-children namely: Berneice , Teddy Ball, Rodney Ball, Kitty Murphy, Connie Ison, and Daphene, Danny; grandchildren Jeff Davis, Ronnie Webb, “Little” Curt Webb, Tiffany Bowes, and Christy Webb; great Grandchildren TiNyah Bowes, Chance and Peyton Davis, Paige Bowditch and Madison Akers; special granddaughter in law Nita Davis who was very nice to me as written in Mary’s very own words.
Also surviving Mary, is her special friend whom she loved as her very own daughter Wanda Moore. Special friends Peachy Dingess, high school friend Lena Varney Dotson. Nieces Ann Bates and Theresa Johnson, nephews, Mike Collins and Johnnie Collins, great niece Mary Beth Collins, nephew David Cook, great nephew David “Dadoo” Cook, great niece Wendi Cook, great nephew Randy Casey, great nephew Matthew Casey, great nephew Andy Casey, great-great niece Casey Smith.
Services Honoring the life of Mary will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 12015 at Chambers Funeral Services Chapel, at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Ron Accord officiating.
Burial will follow at the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, KY.
The family will begin receiving friends on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
