In addition to Hannah Elliott, he was also married to Ella B. Wright Durst on 6 April 1918 in Calhoun County, WV. Emery Madison Ball's parents were McFarlane and Eliza (Hathaway)Ball.
McFarlane, Eliza, and son William all died around 1845 of typhoid fever. At that time, Emery Madison and siblings Jasper, Martha, Sarah, and McFarlane were taken in by his father's brother, John Wesley Ball and wife Rachel Barr Ball.
