Betty Balis was born Betty Ann Evans on July 28, 1932, in Ozark, Ark., to Alton Joyce Evans and Dolly Marie Inman Evans. She attended the elementary schools of Frenship in Wolfforth, Texas, and graduated from Shallowater High School in 1950. Betty excelled in athletics at Shallowater High, receiving varsity letters in basketball. Betty later became an accomplished businesswoman while raising her two sons. Betty was active in local churches, schools and the National Business Women's Association. She attended Shallowater Baptist Church.
Betty is survived by her husband, Philip Wesley Balis of Anton, Texas; her sister, Marlene Spurrier of Lubbock; her sons, Russell Kent Hagan and his wife Michiko Sasamoto Hagan of Tokyo, Japan, and Michael Scott Hagan and his wife Christina Wright Hagan of Midland, Texas; and grandchildren, Jonathan Scott Hagan of Austin, TX, Keely Christina Hagan of Allen, TX, Michelle Hagan Robinson of Lakenheath, UK, and Matthew Hagan of Fayetteville, NC. Betty also has two great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Kenji Robinson.
Graveside service was held at City of Lubbock Cemetery, Lubbock, Texas, on April 28,
