Dorothy May (Baldwin) Lowe, 84, quietly and peacefully entered her rest on All Saints Day, November 3, 2013 at Garden Terrace in Overland Park, Kansas. Dorothy was a strong Christian who used her many God-given gifts and abilities to serve Christ by serving others throughout her life.
Dorothy, also called Dot and Dottie, was born May 13, 1929 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and grew up on Post with her loving parents Fred and Leila, two older brothers, Leo and Howard, and one younger sister Evie. Dot graduated from Leavenworth High in 1947 and received her teaching credentials from The University of Kansas. Later she earned her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from KU. She taught second grade and kindergarten for many years and impacted the lives of many children.
Dot married her high school best buddy, Ronald Lowe, in 1951 at the Post Chapel at Fort Leavenworth. Throughout their marriage, they lived in the Kansas City area and in Nashville Tennessee. Their only child, Laurel Lowe Barnes, serves as a pastor in the United Methodist Church. In August, 2011, Ron and Dot celebrated their 60th anniversary in grand style with many friends in attendance and renewed their marriage vows with Pastor Barnes proudly officiating.
She was an active member of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, Sigma Kappa sorority, lifetime member of the Girl Scouts and the D.A.R. She received an award for volunteering over a thousand hours at Kaleidoscope in Kansas City, Mo. Dot was a good tennis player, a Girl Scout swimming instructor and an avid KU sports fan attending many KU football and basketball games over the years with Ron and friends.
Dorothy Lowe leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, Ron Lowe of Prairie Village, her forever grateful daughter, Laurie Barnes and her husband, Steve in Junction City, Kansas, her sister, Evie Ohlhausen of Phoenix, Arizona, sister-in-law, Margie Baldwin of Leavenworth, Kansas and many nieces and nephews and life-time friends.
Dot's Celebration of Life service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, November 9 at the Church of the Resurrection's Wesley Chapel.
