Samuel Harold "Buckshot" Baldwin, formerly of Nellis, WV, passed away June 10, 2006 in Camp Hill, PA. He was born October 6, 1918 in Boone County, WV, the son of Andrew Baldwin and Ella Mae Clark Baldwin. He graduated from Sherman Hill School, Seth, WV, and had the distinction of being the first Eagle Scout in Boone County. He was a World War II combat Veteran with the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman attached to the Marines in the South Pacific. He served at New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, Vela LaVela, and Guam. After discharge, he worked in the security force at the Navy Base in Mechanicsburg for over 30 years before retiring in 1980. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6704 and American Legion Post 109, both of Mechanicsburg. He founded the Lower Allen Little League in 1952 and stayed active for many years. He loved to hunt and fish in Pennsylvania and was a long time member of the Yellow Breeches Anglers & Conservation Association. His children Barbara, Marcus, Jay, Richard, and 9 grandchildren survive him. Graveside service with military honors at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Friday, June 23, Chaplain Keith Searfoss of Odyssey Health Care officiating. [Harrisburg Patriot-News]
