Gerald passed away peacefully on July 2, 2011 with family by his side. The seventh of ten children, Gerald was born and raised in Lansing, Michigan by parents Charles and Florence Baldwin. Gerald enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1939 and served until 1959.
A WWII and Korean War Veteran, he was awarded many medals and honors, including the Purple Heart while serving on the USS Birmingham in the Pacific during WWII. He married Elmeta Blaskowsky, his beloved wife of 61 years in San Francisco in 1950 and moved to San Diego in 1956. After retiring from military duty Gerald worked for SDG&E from 1962-1986.
Gerald is survived by his wife Elmeta and their four children: Debra, Ronald, Rosemary, and Alan; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and brothers Charles, Jack and Bruce; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Gerald enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling with his family. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
