Leora Myrtle (Baldridge) Balcom was born on May 28 1902. When she married at the young age of 14, she stated she was older to be able to obtain the marriage license. A delayed birth certificate was filed for her in May 1961 and her marriage certificate was used to verify her date of birth. A 2nd cousin also signed an affidavit stating that Leora was born May 28, 1899. When Leora died in 1971, her daughter informed the undertaker that her mother was born in 1902 on May 27. Also no record of Leora or her family has been found in the 1900 census and she was listed as 8 years old in the 1910 census. When the headstone was ordered around 2009, Leora's great grandson Allen Austin was unclear as to what her exact date date of birth was, so it was decided to go with the May 28 1899 date. There was some confusion on her name as well, her grandson that was ordering the headstone from a headstone company where he lived over 700 miles away, grew up thinking his grandmother's name was Myrtle Leona. It was later discovered that Leora's older brother Charles Henry was born in October 1899 according to his death certificate of 1913, this would make it impossible for Leora Myrtle to be born in May 1899.

Leora Myrtle's birth date is listed as May 27 1902 on the family lineage page of her granddaughter Dorothy Georgetta's memorial book.
