Ruth D. Bakke, 96 of Barnesville, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at Barnesville Good Samaritan Center.
Ruth, the daughter of Ole and Bertina (Holt) Julsrud, was born Aug, 12, 1911, on the family farm in rural Barnesville. She attended country school District 201, and grew to womanhood in that area.
In 1920, she received her diploma from the American College of Music. In her late teens she moved to Oklee, where she lived with her sister and husband. She taught piano lessons and worked as a hired woman for area families doing housekeeping.
Ruth married Andrew Bakke on June 8, 1938 in Oklee. The couple made their home and farmed near Oklee. They not only owned and operated a dairy farm but ran the milk route in Oklee delivering milk in bottles to area homes. They retired in the late 1980s.
Andrew died in January of 1990. In October of 1990, Ruth moved to Barnesville. In March of this year she became a resident at the Barnesville Good Samaritan Center where she lived until the time of her death.
She was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oklee and the church's ladies Aid. She also served as organist and pianist at the church, sang in the choir and sang solos.
She was a faithful participant of her exercise group in Barnesville. Ruth enjoyed music, flowers and her flower garden, and loved house plants. She enjoyed being a farmer's wife.
She is survived by seven nephews and nine nieces, Harlan (Helen Ann) Haugrud of rural Rothsay, Aurlette (Harry) Plateau of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Larry (Eileen) Bolstad of Detroit Lakes, Roger (Susan) Bolstad of New Folden, Gloria Mitchell of Detroit Lakes, Inez Braton of Barnesville, Violet (Al) Wolf of Jamestown, N.D., Norma (Harold) Helm and Florence (Julian) Larson, both of Moorhead, Goldie (Harley) Hansen of Tower City, N.D., Vernie (Viviette) Haugtvedt of Hawley, Doris LaFayette of Barnesville, Wesley (Marsha) Julsrud of Lebanon, Ore., Joann (Nick) Treinen of Nampa, Idaho, Curtis (Joyce) Julsrud of Ellensburg, Wash., and William Julsrud; many great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, great-great great-nieces and nephews; and cousins.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew; her twin sister, Ruby; sisters, Mabel Haugtvedt, Bernice Haugtvedt and Bertha Haugrud; and brothers, Oliver, Orville, Joseph and Herbert.
Visitation: Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, at Zion Lutheran Church, Oklee
