Martha J. Bakke was born Feb. 28, 1927, at Ambrose, to John and Agnes (Opperude) Bakke. She attended grade school and high school in Ambrose and received a secretarial degree from Fargo Business College. She started her work career at the Minot Daily News in 1947. In 1948, she married Richard Parizek.
She returned to work at the Minot Daily News in 1964 as head of classified advertising. She later accepted the position of office manager at Northern Plumbing Supply.
In 1970, she married John Luxem in Las Vegas. They traveled the country in their fifth wheel and had many exciting adventures. Their country home was beautified by hundreds of flowers each year, planted and cared for by Marty.
Marty had a passion for cooking and took many cooking classes. As a result, their friends were treated to many elegant dinners. She enjoyed modeling for Walter's Women's Wear at their fashion shows at the Minot Country Club and also for Young America at their fashion events at the International Inn.
John Luxem died in 1987. Marty was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed volunteering at Trinity Hospital. On Jan. 2, 1993, Marty married her longtime friend, Art Anderson. Their summers were spent at their lake cabin, where she manicured the trees and flowers daily. They played golf at the Hazen Country Club and enjoyed the company of their "lake friends." Marty became a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in 2002.
Marty wished to express a special thank you to Art Jr., Lana Anderson and family and Brian Anderson for their kindness and friendship in the past years.
Marty's family extends a special thank you to her beloved friends and staff at Edgewood Vista who loved and cared for her. Thank you also to Spectrum Home Care and Hospice for their support and care to the family during the past few weeks.
