Joyce J. Bakeris, age 73, of Bettendorf, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2010. A celebration of life Mass for Joyce will be held on Tuesday, March 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 18th Street in Bettendorf. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 1, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly and Jersey Ridge in Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Joyce's name for a college fund to benefit her grandchildren.
Joyce was born in Davenport on New Year's Day in 1937 to Helen and Peter J. Roemer. She married James G. Bakeris on August 27, 1958, at Holy Family Church in Davenport. He preceded her in death in 1981. She lived a loving and joyful life, enjoying her family, friends and success in business. She owned and operated several Scrub Pubs in the area until her retirement in 2008. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt and cousin. Family and her business were her biggest joys. She loved having her family together at her home, playing poker, sharing wine, food and good times.
She is survived by her six children, Mary Bakeris-Gullion (Randy), Jim (Joy) Bakeris, Dick (Kaarin) Bakeris, Bob (Pam) Bakeris, David (Shea) Bakeris, and Mark (Kari) Bakeris; and 12 grandchildren, Adam, Kent, Jamie, Jenna, Race, Oliver, Brady, Ben, Londyn, Luke, Cruz and Skyler.
