Chalice Baker died in Baldwinsville, N.Y. on Friday, September 19, 1997. She was 87 years old.

Mrs. Baker and her husband, Rev. Ralph E. Baker, lived in the Spirit Lake area for 15 yeas. After Rev. Baker died in 1990, Mrs. Baker lived with her children, and for the last five years made her home in Syracuse, N.Y.

Mrs. Baker was born in Spiceland, Ind. on December 31, 1909, daughter of Rev. J. F. Moore and Eva (Grupe) Moore. She moved to Iowa when she was six years old. Her father, a Methodist minister, served churches throughout northwest Iowa.

Chalice graduated from high school in Aurelia and from Morningside College, in Sioux City. There she met her husband of 57 years. She was a homemaker and a pastor's wife. Together with her husband, she helped serve Methodist churches in Woden, Inwood, Gowrie, Spirit Lake, Hampton, Marion, Storm Lake and Clinton.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Merlin and Diana Baker of Enterprise, Ala., a daughter Karen Norton of Syracuse, N.Y. and a sister Mrs. Laurel (Kathlyn) Johnson of Milford. Also surviving are three grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was in Syracuse, N.Y. on September 21. Services at the grave will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 1997, in the Lakeview Cemetery, Spirit Lake. A remembrance will be after the service at the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church's Fireside Room.
