Mrs. Julia B. Alt, 89, of 6801W CR-250S, LaPorte, died Monday, March 6, 2006, at 11:55 p.m. at Saint Anthony Memorial Hospital, Michigan City.

She was born Nov. 11, 1916, in Kingsbury to Andy A. and Jennie (Youngblood) Baker, and had lived in LaPorte most of her life.

Mrs. Alt was a homemaker and had also worked at Moore and Richter Lumber Co. She attended Pinhook Methodist Church, was a member of New Durham Township Farm Bureau, and was a member and former historian of the New Durham Township Extension Homemakers Club. She was a LaPorte County 4-H leader and an honorary volunteer of the LaPorte County Historical Society. She and her husband were instrumental in restoring Pinhook Methodist Church.

On June 4, 1938, in LaPorte, she married Vernon S. Alt, who died May 15, 2004.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Robert C.; and one brother, Arthur Baker.

Surviving are one daughter-in-law, Mary Sue Link of Winamac; three grandchildren, Marilyn Thobe, Rebecca Goble and Robert Alt; and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Pinhook Methodist Church with Rev. Dee Miller officiating. Friends may call at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the church Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Pinhook Cemetery.
