Archie "Buck" Baker, 74, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Funeral: Noon Friday at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Crowley, 400 S. Eagle Dr., Crowley, Texas 76036; or the Dawson Ex-Student Association, Box 36 Dawson, Texas 76639.
Archie was born May 6, 1932, in Dawson to Jim and Louella Baker.
He was a loving husband and father who loved to be with his children and grandchildren. He was called "Big Bear" and "Buck," but his grandchildren called him "Poppie." Archie served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. After the war, he graduated with a master's degree in 1963 from the University of North Texas. He retired from LTV and Lockheed. During his retirement, he loved to fish, travel and play dominoes. He was known for his jokes and stories. Archie was a faithful servant of the Lord and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Survivors: His loving wife of 48 years, Mary Baker, married Aug. 23, 1958; his daughter, Dani Smith and her husband, Robby; son, Kelvin Baker and his wife, Pam; grandchildren, Dawson Smith, Hayley Smith, Hayden Baker; and sister, Bessie Mae Bradford.
