Betty Carrol Baker Rainbolt of Stafford passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at the age of 80. She was born on Dec. 30, 1927, in Scottsville, Ark., to the late John Carroll and Hallie Bewley Baker.
The family came to Texas and settled in LaWard, where she attended school. Betty Carrol greatly enjoyed music as she was growing up, and especially enjoyed playing the piano. Upon graduation from high school, Betty Carrol attended Texas Aamp;I in Kingsville. She married Bill Rainbolt in 1948 and together they had twin boys, Terrell and Gerald, in 1951. As their children were growing up, Betty Carrol concentrated on continuing her college studies and, while also attending school, was director of the College's preschool. Because of her love of children and teaching, she chose to pursue a degree in education and was awarded both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Texas Aamp;I. She taught school for many years until her retirement. Upon her retirement, she moved from Kingsville to Edna to be near her elderly parents. She was a very devoted daughter to them and was their caretaker until their deaths. As her own health began to fail, she moved to Stafford, near her family, to reside at Oasis Lifestyle Assisted Living facility. While there, she frequently organized bridge games, luncheons for her friends, and entertained the residents by playing the piano. She even taught piano lessons to those who were interested.
Carrol was a member of First Baptist Church in Edna. She loved her church and the friends she had there. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi and was proud that her granddaughter also became an ADPi member during her college career.
Carrol is survived by her sons, Terrell Rainbolt and wife Carol of Sugar Land and Gerald Rainbolt and wife Becky of Coppell. She is also survived by her grandchildren, John, Amy, and Michael. She was very proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed sharing in their lives.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, with the funeral following at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Edna. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens of Edna cemetery. The Rev. Danny Reeves will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be John Rainbolt, Michael Rainbolt, R.L. Shafer, Timothy Shafer, Joe Bonnot, Larry Deyton, Glen Martin, and John Jarrett.
