Daniel was a cabinet maker who worked at the Marietta Chair Factory. He never owned a carriage or a car and carried furniture home on his back. He built the house at 717 5th Street in 1885. He was hump backed and bald and wore a derby or felt hat wherever he went. He and his wife, Mary Reiter, raised 4 sons in the 5th St. house, Lawrence, Walter, Herbert, and Arthur and lived there until their death., after which Dan Baker, son of Walter, bought the house and lived there with his first wife, Mary, and their daughter, Margaret Mary (Peggy). The house had no inside plumbing when built. A chicken coop, garden, and outhouse were in the back yard. The house still stands today
