Baker, Bessie I. formerly of Mosherville, PA and presently residing at the Bradford County Manor, passed away, Wed. Jan. 9, 2012 at Troy Community Hospital following declining health at the age of 90. Born on May 5, 1922 in Millerton, PA; Bessie was the daughter of the late Samuel & Odetta Carpenter Criss.

She devoted her life to education, graduated from Mansfield Teachers College with a BS in Elementary Education. She taught Elementary Education at the Mosherville, Millerton and Sayre Schools for many years and retired from Troy Area School Dist.

Always active, Bessie selflessly gave to "Feed the Children", was the Judge of Elections, worked on the Census and was a lifelong member of the Mosherville Bible Church where she held many offices. Bessie had the gift of hospitality and opened her home to many traveling missionaries.

Surviving are her loving children, Donald (Sharon) Baker, Roseville, PA; Barbara (David) Presley, LaFayette, TN; Melinda (John) Miller Towanda, PA; and Cyndi Baker, Rochester, NY; grandchildren, David, Becky, Eric, Andrew, Maria and Liz; great grandchildren, Charity and Landon; brother, Calvin Criss; sisters, Margie McCullam and Norma Phillips; nieces, nephews and family friends.

In addition to her parents, Bessie was predeceased by her loving husband, Willis A. Baker in 1981; her siblings, Augusta Bennett, Samuel Criss and Frank Criss.

Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport/Elmira, NY on Sun. Jan, 13, 2013 between the hours of 1-3 p.m. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 3:15 p.m. with her Pastor James Truax officiating with burial at the family's convenience in Woodlawn Cemetery. Because of her love for children, the family requests that memorial donations be directed to "Feed the Children" or a library of your choice.

Motherhood was one of her proudest accomplishments and she will be greatly missed by her family.
