Bernard Gerald "Bernie" Baker of Louisville, KY, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, October 14, 2000, at Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY. Born on November 30, 1943, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Frank Gerald and Bernice Marie (Turner) Baker. He married Rose B. Wooten on July 7, 1979, and she survives.

Also surviving are five sons: David G. Baker of Texas, Paul Harvey of Bedford, IN, B. David Baker of Orleans, IN, Gerald Baker of Bloomington, IN, and the Rev. Robert Baker of Kentucky; four daughters: Ruby Pruett, Penny Clark and Ki Eads, all of Bedford, IN, and Melinda Bastin of Colorado; one sister, Janice Baker Openshaw of Bloomington, IN; twenty-one grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandsons.

He was retired from Bedford North Lawrence High School Maintenance Department, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was a member of the National Guard. He was of Pentecostal faith.

Services for Bernard Baker will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 19th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Paul Harvey and the Revs. Robert Baker and Curt Pruett, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of American Legion Gillen Post #33.
