Bill D. Baker, 80, of Bedford, died at 9:10 p.m. on Thursday at the White River Lodge.
Born Nov. 24, 1928, in Avoca, he was the son of Aden and Stella (Massey) Baker. He married Roberta Chastain on Oct. 4, 1952, and she survives. He retired from General Motors in Bedford in 1991. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local No. 440, the Calvary Chapel Church and the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta, of Bedford; one son, Jay Donald Baker of Bedford; one daughter, Denise Dillman and husband Jay of Bedford; a sister, Mary Scheffel and husband Fred of Bedford; and four grandchildren, Whitney Baker, Haley Baker, Garrett Baker and Molly Dillman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Spencer Baker; and three half-brothers.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Jim McDowell officiating. Burial will follow in the Hilltop Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion.
