R. Irwin Baker passed away Oct. 14, 2000 in Spokane after a lengthy illness.
Born Aug. 10, 1914, Irwin grew up in Seattle and worked there as a self-employed building contractor for 40 years. In 1979, he and his wife Agnes moved to Orondo, where, with an incredible amount of pride, he ran a small family fruit orchard for nearly 20 years. An avid outdoorsman, he continued his love of both fishing and hunting until about five years ago. Due to declining health, he was no longer able to sustain the orchard and he and Agnes moved to Spokane in 1998 where he delighted in seeing his grandchildren and especially his great-grandchildren, whose visits brought him great moments of joy.
Irwin is survived by his beloved wife, Agnes of 61 years, of Rockford; children, Cliff (Stephanie) of Seattle, Lois Taylor (Rich) of Spokane and Gladys Baker (Scott Mason) of Woodinville; grandson Brian (Marie) Taylor of Rockford; grandson Dan (Danita) Taylor of Spokane; granddaughter Claudia Baker, Whitworth College
student, Spokane; great granddaughters Rachel and Sara Taylor of Rockford and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He is also survived by his sister, Evangeline Payette of Walnut Creek, CA.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jesus Baker in 1990.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Orondo Community Church, or Fairfield Good Samaritan Center, 400 S. Good Samaritan Road, Fairfield, WA 99012.
