Clara Jean Simkins Baker 8/4/1923 ~ 11/7/2006 Our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was reunited with her eternal companion on Nov. 7, 2006. She was surrounded by loving family members at Heritage Park Care Center in Roy, Utah.

She was born in Circleville, Utah on August 4, 1923 to James Willard Simkins and Manetta Pendleton Church. She grew up in Lincoln County, Nevada.

She married John Age Baker on November 14, 1942 in the St. George Temple. John and Clara were sweethearts, companions and best friends for 60 years. He passed away March 9, 2003. John and Clara moved to Layton in 1947 and operated the Signal Caf‚ for a short time. Clara was a member of the Layton 4th and 18th LDS wards for several years serving, and being served by many precious friends.

She and John served for years in the Ogden LDS Temple and as full time missionaries in the Canada, Montreal Mission in 1984. Her main passion in life was caring for and being with her family. She worked for brief periods as a cook at Whitesides Elementary and in sales at B&B department store.

Clara leaves behind eight children, Karen (Mel) Younggren of Suisun, CA, Judy (Wilson) Armstrong, Blackfoot, ID, Wayne (Gayle) Baker, Centerville, UT, Kenton (Cheryl) Baker, New Brighton, MN, Calvin (Claire) Baker, Middlebury, IN, Markaye (John) Moss, Layton, UT, Matthew (Janean) Baker, La Crosse, WI, Stan (Eileen) Baker, Ivins, UT; 31 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Layton East Stake Center, 1015 North Emerald Drive. Friends and family may call on Friday evening 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road and Saturday morning 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center.
