Annie Statira McGary was born on 5 September 1867 in Chappell Hill, Texas, to Major Daniel Leonidas "Dan" McGary and his wife, Martha Jane Summers. She was named for her grandmother, Statira McCreery McGary. Her twin brother, Atreus, was stillborn.
Annie's father was a Civil War veteran, as well as owner and editor of Brenham's Southern Banner and the Houston Age. In 1871, the McGary family moved from Chappell Hill to Houston, Texas.
Annie married Eugene Harrison Baker, a gambler and saloon keeper, 1885, in Seguin, Texas. They had five children: Vibella Minnie, an unnamed stillborn daughter, Lee, Raymond Hutchinson "Ray", and Eugene Blake Baker. Lee died young while traveling alone by train.
The Baker family lived in Clayton, New Mexico, and Fall River County, South Dakota, before returning to Texas. Soon after their youngest son was born, Eugene and Annie were divorced.
Annie's last residence was at 631 Turner Avenue in Dallas, Texas, where she lived with her son, Ray, and attended the Methodist Church. She died, 2 March 1949, aged 81, in Dallas and was buried three days later at Restland Memorial Park.
